FileCatalyst Direct 3.7.1 released
Posted by John Tkaczewski on 06 June 2017 03:28 PM

We were very happy about the response that FileCatalyst Direct 3.7 garnered, but the FileCatalyst team isn’t going to stop there. We leveraged the feedback we were given from our customers and have brought some highly anticipated new features to our customers with the release of FileCatalyst Direct 3.7.1.

Starting with HotFolder, we have made the ability to edit tasks available on the HTML admin page. This is a game changer for some of our customers as they sometimes need to make ad hoc changes to tasks, and being able to make these changes in the HTML admin page provides even more agility.

We are also happy to announce that the reverse proxy server is now available for FileCatalyst Direct 3.7.1. Now our customers can even further enhance their security by deploying the reverse proxy server in the DMZ and their FileCatalyst Server on their secure internal network.

To lower the size of our client applications, especially with TransferAgent, we moved EFS jar files to a separate downloadable package. This has lowered the size of the TransferAgent installer by over 30MB.

Not only did we add new features, but we have also made a number of tweaks and fixes which you can view in our release notes here.

You can learn more about FileCatalyst in a previous webinar that our Co-Founder and President John Tkaczewski gave in May. Click Here to watch the webinar now.

FileCatalyst Workflow v4.9.9 released
Posted by John Tkaczewski on 04 April 2017 02:16 PM

With longer days and warmer weather approaching, we’re happy to announce the release of FileCatalyst Workflow version 4.9.9! Let's quickly recap what's new. This version will only be available as Workflow. FileCatalyst Webmail has been obsolete since January 2015, and has now been removed from the build distribution. We encourage everyone to upgrade to Workflow as soon as possible to remain up-to-date and have access to all of our newest features.

First and foremost, version 4.9.9 adds TransferAgent to File Areas. While job submissions and downloads have had TransferAgent support since February 2016, File Areas now also supports TransferAgent. We encourage all of our clients to upgrade to TransferAgent as soon as possible, because Java Applets will no longer be available as an upload method in the next version of Workflow.

TransferAgent supports our lightning fast UDP-based file transfer acceleration protocol and smoothly handles large files, as well as complex directory structures, for both uploads and downloads. Built for modern browsers using HTML5, TransferAgent doesn't require Java Applets on the user's browser. All the problems associated with installing and running Java Applets are now gone!

We also made several improvements to other parts of the product including:

  • The ability to embed upload forms in an iFrame
  • The ability to force upload forms to always use form upload
  • The ability to insert custom HTML/CSS into an upload form

See Release notes for a complete list of changes in version 4.9.9

FileCatalyst Direct v3.7 is here
Posted by John Tkaczewski on 02 March 2017 03:11 PM

Introducing FileCatalyst v3.7, the latest update to our award winning flagship product. Loaded with features, we have made file sharing even faster and easier for our user community in this version. FileCatalyst Central has seen some new additions to its usability, including a map overlay that provides users with a real-time view of their data movement and remote node configuration. Central now allows administrators to view statistics graphically on a map to quickly manage traffic and identify usage patterns.

The FileCatalyst Direct 3.7 update brings many new features to FileCatalyst TransferAgent. Users can install TransferAgent as a non-admin user on Windows. We added Linux support. TransferAgent now includes the two-way FileCatalyst Express user interface. TransferAgent may now connect to Central for remote node-to-node file transfers accessible directly from Central’s map view.

Here is a quick list of some of the new features FileCatalyst brings to the table:

  • Central “map” system overview
  • Remote administration and configuration of nodes in Central
  • TransferAgent is now a supported node in Central
  • TransferAgent two-way file transfers replace our two-way Java applet. Try a live demo of TransferAgent here
  • TransferAgent now installs as a service for constant availability
  • TransferAgent is now supported on Linux
  • Reverse proxy for DMZ deployments

See Release notes for a complete list of changes in version 3.7

Advisory: Java Applet Support Discontinued by Firefox
Posted by Aly Essa on 10 February 2017 11:05 AM
In October of 2015, Mozilla had issued an advisory where Firefox Development intends to remove support for most NPAPI plugins by the end of 2016. (NPAPI Plugins in Firefox)

A post on Slashdot confirmed this news earlier this week:

"Starting March 7, when Mozilla is scheduled to release Firefox 52, all plugins built on the old NPAPI technology will stop working in Firefox, except for Flash, which Mozilla plans to support for a few more versions. This means technologies such as Java, Silverlight, and various audio and video codecs won't work on Firefox."

For a short period of time, enterprise customers of Firefox have the ability to subscribe to Firefox Extended Support Release which will allow them to continue in browser FileCatalyst Applet usage. Please visit the Firefox ESR Webpage for more details.

For FileCatalyst users, this means that right now you are going to be unable to run our Java applets, as well as everyone else, in your Firefox browsers.

FileCatalyst TransferAgent was released in September 2014 as an alternative solution to Java Applets running in Chrome and Firefox. We strongly recommend our users migrate to this application and if you would like more information on deployment and usage of TransferAgent please contact your FileCatalyst Sales Representative or submit a ticket in our FileCatalyst Support Portal.

FileCatalyst Workflow v4.9.7 is ready to ship
Posted by John Tkaczewski on 03 November 2016 05:01 PM

FileCatalyst Workflow version 4.9.7 is here! It has been just a little over 6 months since our last update of this product (v4.9.6 came out in May 2016). So let's quickly recap what's new. This version will have new features in Workflow only, Webmail is now discontinued! FileCatalyst Webmail has been obsolete since January 2015, so it should no longer be a surprise that Webmail is no longer supported. We encourage everyone to upgrade to Workflow ASAP to remain up-to-date. Click here for upgrade instructions from Webmail to Workflow.

Here is a short list of what we changed:

  • We simplified the in-line installer of TransferAgent; admin rights are no longer required to install TransferAgent.
  • We added video preview to all video files sent to a recipient via an email link. The video preview uses FFMPEG as the encoder.
  • We added a "Strict Security". The strict security creates temporary users for any upload/download functionality which even further isolates the end user from the ROOT of the FTP Site. This feature requires all the FC/FTP Servers to be FileCatalyst v3.6build33 or higher. We encourage all our clients to enable this feature as soon as possible.
  • We made several improvements to LDAP/Active Directory integration with the address book.
  • We improved the native Form Upload with support for reserved characters and UTF-8 characters in the file name.
  • We updated certificate for Java Applets, the new certificate will expire on Sept. 29 2019.
  • All the temporary files from form uploads can now be stored in a separate path and not necessarily under Tomcat.
