FileCatalyst Webmail/Workflow Executable Doesn't Run as a Service on Windows 2008

Overview

When installing FileCatalyst Webmail or Workflow from the Windows Executable that we provide, you may encounter an issue when trying to start the FileCatalyst Webmail or Workflow Service. This is due to either Java not being configured properly on your machine or User access Control permissions. The following article will show a workaround to help you get it configured as a service.

 

Environment

FileCatalyst Workflow v4.9.4 and later.

FileCatalyst Webmail v4.9.4 and later.

Windows Server 2008.


Resolution

  1. Go to the installed location for FileCatalyst Webmail or Workflow through Windows Explorer. This should be under C:\Program Files\FileCatalyst Web Workflow\.
  2. Navigate into the apache-tomcat folder then into bin folder. A sample path would look like C:\Program Files\FileCatalyst Web Workflow\apache-tomcat/bin/.
  3. Open the Tomcat7fcwebw.exe file. You may need to run this file as Administrator. To do this, right-click on this and select Run as Administrator.
  4. This will open the FileCatalyst/Tomcat Service Manager. Go to the Java tab.
  5. Uncheck the Use Default and specify the Java Virtual Machine Location as follows:

    <install directory FileCatalyst Web Workflow>\Java\jre7\bin\server\jvm.dll

    For example, a full path would be: C:\FileCatalyst Web Workflow\Java\jre7\bin\server\jvm.dll

  6. Hit OK.
