Attempting to Launch FileCatalyst Web Applets Redirects to Java Download page

Overview

When attempting to launch any of our web-based FileCatalyst Applets and are redirected to the Java download page, this is due to a disparity between the type of Java installed on your system and the type of web browser you have installed.

If your Java version and your web browser are different bit architecture types, and 32-bit or 64-bit, your system attempts to correct this.

 

Environment

FileCatalyst Workflow v4.0 and later.

FileCatalyst Webmail v4.0 and later.

FileCatalyst Applets v3.4 and later.

Windows Environment.

 

Resolution

  • To check your Java version, open a Command Prompt and enter the following command:

    java -version 

  • Following is an example of output from this command:

    java version "1.8.0_31"

    Java (TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_31-b13)

    Java HotSpot (TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.31-b07, mixed mode)

  • This example shows that Java RE is version 1.8.0_31 and that it is the 64-bit architecture.

  • The process to check your web browser version varies depending upon the web browser in question. In general, a quick Google search will bring up instructions for your specific web browser. The version will display "64-bit" if it is the 64-bit type; there will be no indicator however if it is the 32-bit type.

  • If your Java is the 64-bit architecture and your web browser is the 32-bit architecture you will be redirected to java.com to download the appropriate Java type.
