Overview

If you are experiencing intermittent drop offs in transfer speeds to the FileCatalyst Servers hosted on Mac OS X Machines there is a simple fix that can be implemented. By altering the file write mode in the fcconf.conf, located in your user home directory.

The transfer activity window would show the speed graph with the following behaviour for a 1 GB file:

Intermittent transfers

Environment

FileCatalyst Server v3.4 and later.

Mac OSX Environment.

Resolution

  1. Turn off the FileCatalyst Server service from the System Preferences menu.
  2. Open the fcconf.conf file in a text editor. A sample path would be /Library/Application Support/FileCatalyst/Server/.
  3. Search for the property FCServer.server.config.write.file.mode=rw
  4. Change this property to FCServer.server.config.write.file.mode=rwd. This will greatly increase the write speed to your FileCatalyst Server storage.
  5. Save the file and restart the FileCatalyst Server service.
  6. Here is an illustration of the same transfer of a 1GB file after the change has been implemented:
